This August, the OI community came together in the scenic town of Harpenden for a truly special event: the OI Family Summer Fun Time — a day filled with laughter, joy, and the kind of connection that reminds us just how strong and united our community truly is.
The event brought together children, families, caregivers, and supporters living with Osteogenesis Imperfecta for a day where everyone could feel included, supported, and celebrated. The atmosphere was full of warmth and positivity, as families reconnected and new friendships blossomed under the summer sun.
A big highlight of the day was the inclusive outdoor games and activities, thoughtfully designed to ensure that children with OI of all abilities could participate safely and confidently. There was an adapted egg and spoon race, where balance, focus, and a whole lot of giggles made it a crowd favourite. The sack race had everyone cheering as children competed in soft landing zones, with lightweight sacks and plenty of encouragement from friends and family alike.
From gentle arts and crafts stations to relaxed picnic spaces, and from active play to quiet conversations, the event created opportunities for every kind of participation. It was a day to simply be — to share stories, find community, and celebrate the vibrant spirit of those living with OI.
Parents shared experiences, children formed instant friendships, and new families to the community found a place where they felt understood and supported. For many, it was the first time attending an event with others who truly “get it” — a powerful and moving experience for all involved.
Events like these are more than just fun days out. They are vital moments of connection, understanding, and empowerment — helping to reduce isolation and build strong, resilient networks of support.
A heartfelt thank you to the organisers, volunteers, families, and children who made the day so special. Your energy, love, and commitment are what make the OI community such a unique and inspiring family.
Here’s to many more shared moments of sunshine, support, and strength! 🌈
