At the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation Nigeria (OIFN), we believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to live a life of dignity, independence, and hope—regardless of physical ability. As part of our mission to promote inclusion and improve quality of life, we provide mobility aids such as wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, and other walking supports to individuals living with brittle bone condition (Osteogenesis Imperfecta, or OI) and other physical disabilities.

Through these impactful initiatives, we aim to reduce the daily challenges faced by people with mobility impairments—helping them participate more fully in their communities, access education, pursue livelihoods, and live with increased autonomy and confidence.

350+ Mobility Aids Distributed in Delta and Lagos States – February 2024

In February 2024, OIFN successfully distributed over 350 mobility aids to individuals in Delta and Lagos States, Nigeria. This large-scale outreach effort focused on reaching underserved individuals and families who would otherwise not have access to such essential support.

A Comprehensive and Inclusive Distribution Process

Each aid was provided through a carefully structured, person-centred approach, ensuring every recipient received what they truly needed. Key components included:

Six fully operational assessment stations, led by trained physiotherapists, for personalized physical evaluations.

Customised fittings and adjustments for each mobility aid, prioritising comfort and safety.

On-site counselling sessions for individuals and their families, recognising the emotional toll disability can take. These sessions created a safe space for healing, support, and empowerment.

Building a More Inclusive Future

OIFN’s mobility support programs go beyond just distributing equipment—they’re about restoring dignity, celebrating differences, and building stronger, more inclusive communities.

We are proud of the achievements made in February 2024 and deeply moved by the resilience of every beneficiary. Their courage continues to inspire us to do more and reach further.
